How do I keep my shoes from stinking?

Make sure your shoes can air out and give them a day’s rest so your shoes can breathe. Wear shoes made from natural materials. Think leather shoes or canvas shoes. And combat sweaty feet by washing your feet regularly and spraying with PediSpray® foot spray against sweaty feet

Shoes smell like old cheese

This foul odor is typical of sweaty feet and is caused by the Brevi bacteria. this bacterium lives on your feet but it also lives on cheese so hence the association.

Do you suffer from this? PediFris® helps against smelly feet and smelly shoes to get the cheese smell out of your shoes.

Shoes smell like cat piss

Do you have sweaty feet and do your shoes often come into damp environments or contact with water? Then chances are your shoes will smell like cat pee. This often happens with athletic shoes, especially those used outdoors such as soccer shoes.

Really smelly shoes

For this, too, take PediFris® to expel the typical unpleasant odor from your shoes. A small teaspoon of the miracle powder in your shoes, put them on and they will soon be pleasantly fresher again.

Cleaning smelly orthotics

A regular shoe change is important so you can air out your smelly shoes. Such a change is also recommended for orthotics. Because these special soles can smell pretty bad.

Do you suffer from sweaty feet? Then remove them from the shoe at night and let them air out. Or even better; put them in the sun. Because sunlight kills bacteria and fungi because it contains UV radiation.

Sprinkle a little PediFris® in your shoe first before you place the orthotic and later a little more on the sole before you put the shoe on.

You can do this with orthotics and if you have absorbent heel spur orthotics you can do the same with this. (If they are made of gel or rubber this makes no sense)

Nasty smell in shoes? Drying helps

Moisture creates nasty air in shoes. So if your shoes are wet and damp you need to dry and air them. For a wet inside, you can use newspapers by stuffing them inside your shoes.

Moisture will then soak into the newspapers and once most of the moisture has soaked into the newspapers you can take them out again so you can continue to let your shoes dry/air.

There are also expensive shoe dryers on the market for this purpose, but newspapers are at least as effective and is also a lot cheaper.

Wear socks and avoid sweat odor in shoes

Bare feet in your shoes is asking for odor problems. Normally the sock will absorb the sweat but without socks, with bare feet the sweat will soak into the shoe resulting in terrible smells in your shoes.

Do you necessarily want bare feet in your shoes anyway? Then follow our instructions on this page

Wear natural materials

Synthetic materials cannot handle and retain moisture well. These will therefore ensure that now moisture/sweat will also migrate directly into the shoe. This creates an odor that makes your feet and shoes smell, usually a cat piss-like smell.

This is especially common with nylon tights and materials similar to them. Wear cotton socks or socks made of bamboo to avoid unpleasant odors.

Use wooden shoe trees

These not only keep your shoes in good shape but they also absorb moisture in an excellent way. Then make sure they are made of wood because those plastic varieties will not have this absorbent property.

So, shoes worn, tensioners in until you use the shoes again. The wood ensures that moisture/sweat is absorbed and unpleasant odors will be significantly reduced making your shoes significantly fresher.

Do you feel that moisture absorption is decreasing? Then sand the tensioners lightly so that the pores in the wood can absorb moisture again.

Do not use shoe perfume

Avoid these kinds of resources. These will only mask the smell and the problem will always return. On top of that, you are spraying all kinds of crazy substances into your shoes which, like soap residue, can form a breeding ground for microorganisms, making the stinky shoe problem worse.
